An anime that came out Summer 2018. It was highly anticipated by me. I watched it and well, you’ll see my opinion at the opinion section. Based on the Jrpg (Japanese Role Playing Game) horror game maker, which is highly rated, it got adapted to an anime and a manga series.
The game is divided into 3 parts and released as one. It’s available on Android, Steam, iOS, Windows and Nintendo Switch.
The manga has 2 volumes in the main series and there’s a spin-off prequel called Satsuriku no Tenshi Episode.Eddie.
And the anime has specials too where the ending is concluded.
When Rachel wakes up in the basement of an unfamiliar building, she finds herself lost all her memory. As Rachel tries to get clear of the basement, she runs into Zack, a scythe-carrying serial killer wrapped from head to toe in bandages. “Kill me, kill me please…” “I will do it, but only if you help me to get out of this building.” The bizarre promise brings these two together and somehow makes them an irreplaceable partner to each other. Where are they? Why are they trapped? And what is the destiny they have been looking for? The journey of death and lives starts…
So to be honest, I was really excited about this anime. Waited really long for this and I was even happier when I heard that who had written the opening and ending of the anime. The opening was written by Jin, known from his Kagerou Project music series. The ending was written by Deco27*, a very popular and talented music producer, also known from his current company called Otoiro. I’ve followed these two people for such a long time already, that I was happy they got to make this. So the music was nice. I didn’t like the opening as much as the ending, but I really saw that they had written it. So good job guys and vocals.
Next, concept. I know the story. I thought that the game was really nice. I liked it quite a bit, even though I only watched it haha. For an rpg horror game maker, it was really good. I really felt it had good story. In the game it was indeed. In the anime, damn how bad did they make it? No, it was badly worked out in the anime. Geez, everything felt so fake…
Unfortunately, the story in the anime was really bad. It has to be made longer, but it was really ugh. For an rpg game, it’s enough, but not for an anime. And they just did almost everything according to the original game. Although that’s nice to do, it’s not really….fitting this time. It felt flat, artificial, you couldn’t really feel anything from the scenes and the story was tried to be held vague, but they did it so bad. It didn’t make you feel more curious, because you could already know it from the few hints, or the hints were just bad. Every time talking about “I want to die. Kill me.” “No I won’t. Not yet.” Was basically said every x minutes. Really really boring. We get it after a while. Although Rachel is made to be seen as broken, she’s such a flat character in terms of character and very inconsistent. They tried to make her emotionless, but I thought she showed her emotion way too much. The first 4 episodes of the anime were doable, but then it became a long drag basically. To the point I just waited until everything got released so to binge-watch it. Such a waste of my time.
The characters, well, Rachel, our protagonist is very inconsistent. She’s either “I want to die” and then “I don’t want anyone to get hurt”. I understand that she will eventually change, but in the beginning there already so fast when nothing that remarkable happened except the start of their adventure to get up, but not that fast. Very flat and not nice at all. Zack is basically a dumbass who is almost according to the original game, but only a bit harsher in the tsundere part I guess. he’s kind of tsundere in my opinion. Telling his backstory like this felt a bit meh, but it’s doable in some way. I felt it went a bit to another side, which I didn’t like personally, but you can like it. The characters of the villains were so flat, that they had one personality trait. ugh…. guys, at least make them more round characters!!!
The character development was present. Just horribly done and not good at all. It was basically more about how they changed into such bland characters. The backstories of the villains weren’t interesting. Conclusion: Everyone was born as a psychopath. Like, literally none of them have a tragic background, only straight up psychopaths.
Animation, well it was well done. Good job guys. At least the locations were good with the atmosphere.
In the end, I will give it a 3,5/10. The concept, it was nice, just worked out badly. It was pretty bad. The most I enjoyed were the titles, the openings and endings and the first 3-4 episodes. The rest was just bad…
And that was it for this week. I hope you have a nice day or week or whatever and until next time. o>
