Hi people so at the time I’m posting this, I’m somewhere out of the country and the whole EU, so rip internet. Anyways, I’m at least in time with the review. These days it’s harder and harder to find animes for me to review. A lot fo them are super good and I told myself to avoid the good ones, since everyone knows it’s good anyways. And I just want to highlight the less popular ones, since it either needs appreciation or they’re just plainly bad. Enough with the talking and let’s continue on.
It’s an original anime show. Lots of franchise for it, and it just reminds me of those otome games like Uta no Prince Sama. I initially thought that it was an adaptation of such a game, but it’s not. It has those vibes though. So I was looking at Wikipedia and it says
It has generated 3 anime seasons, 2 OVAs, a stage musical adaptation, 2 manga adaptations, 2 radio programs, multiple musical song CDs and drama CDs, as well as a variety of related merchandise and collaboration. The franchise also got a sequel stage musical in July 2018 and a new OVA project on October 24, 2018 – Wikipedia
Which is hella lot. Yes, I’m reviewing this also because the third season is going on. I’ve watched the first two seasons, but the third one, I’ll wait a bit on. I’ve binge-watched them all since it’s kind of ugh to wait for them every week. But yes, this is all I have as background information.
The series tells the story of the five students; Yuuta Hoshitani, Tooru Nayuki, Kaito Tsukigami, Kakeru Tengenji, and Shuu Kuga as they struggle to enter the musical department of Ayanagi Academy, a school focusing on music. They need to be accepted to the Star Frame Class, which is directly taught by the members of Kaou-kai, the most talented from the musical department who stand at the top of the pecking order within the academy. Luckily, they are spotted by Itsuki Ootori, one of Kaou-kai members.
Okay let’s first say what I think about it. It’s entertaining enough, but sometimes so cringe or cliché. I mean, I’ve watched the first 2 seasons, so I at least could handle that, but the first episode of season 3 was so cringe af. So yes, I’ll just watch it one of these days when I don’t have lots to do with my school year, since it’s my graduation year.
Anyways, the problems they have are no big surprises, most things are cliché or often sued concepts in things like shoujo mangas and sometimes dances are so……laughable I guess. The lyrics is really childish, but the music itself isn’t bad. Just that if you know the lyrics you will be like: “Ah, are we in a children’s show?” *smh* But the music isn’t really bad in general like I just said.
The concept, well it’s not bad, just the naming is so….. ahhh….. They meant well, but every problem that happens in the anime is such an overused issue. I really hope people can think of more issues than that.
The characters. The main protagonist is kind of bland of personality. Just mediocre, hard-working and over-positive like most protagonists with those things. Make something else too guys! It’s a bit boring. At least they have clear differences to each other.
Character growth may be a bit cliché, but it’s sort of stable and normal. NOt making everything too OP I guess. Just some scénes for the character growth are to roll your eyes with. Still, there is story and progress, so at least not going nowhere. Also, the goals are within reach at least or just naive. Basically how life is with its ups and downs and growth.
I liked the animation and art. Sometimes flashy, but nice in general how much work they put in it I guess. It’s definitely not one of my favourites, but I think this anime is ok to watch when you’re utterly bored. I don’t really think itself is a good anime, but more like the concept and otome game element is what attracts the viewers.
I would give this anime a 5/10. It’s really not good as of cliché and cringe scénes, but in the end you keep watching it, since it’s sort of attracting I guess. I don’t really knwo how to describe it. For mysterious reasons, I have seen every episode, despite being not really that good.
Anyways, that was it. I hope for those whose school year start again, good luck and see you next time.
