Good day to you all (or night, whatever). This time another anime review. I’ve noticed that I haven’t done a review of a particularly bad or super good anime these days. Well, I think it’s because I do a lot of reviews where I thought they were super good or just awful. Well, can’t help it I guess.
So this anime is from a BL Visual Novel (/Otome game(?)) which I have no idea whether it’s good or bad, but I want to watch some gameplays, so I will do that soon enough I guess. Nothing else of note to be honest. So let’s roll further in.
Some time ago, the influential and powerful Toue Inc. bought the island of Midorijima, Japan, with the plans of building Platinum Jail—a luxurious utopian facility. Those who are lucky enough to call it home are the wealthiest citizens in the world. The original residents of the island, however, were forced to relocate to the Old Residential District; and after the completion of Platinum Jail, they were completely abandoned.
“Rib” and “Rhyme” are the most common games played on the island. Rib is an old school game in which gangs engage in turf wars against each other, while Rhyme is a technologically advanced game wherein participants fight in a virtual reality. To be able to play Rhyme, you must have an “All-Mate” (an AI that typically looks like a pet), and the match must be mediated by an “Usui.”
Aoba Seragaki has no interest in playing either game; he prefers to live a peaceful life with his grandmother and All-Mate, Ren. However, after getting forcefully dragged into a dangerous Rhyme match and hearing rumors about disappearing Rib players, all of Aoba’s hopes of living a normal life are completely abolished.

I have a few things to say about this anime. Let’s just start at the concept and begin positive 🙃. The concept is very nice thought of. A futuristic world where the rich live in a utopia and the poor and common people in a world where nature sort of collapsed. I like the way they think of since it’s something that I can see happening in the future too, so it’s not the most novel idea, but it’s well thought of. The world building isn’t bad. Maybe on a small scale, but it’s good that it’s like that. If they were to say to grow it even larger, it would get very messy. SO the concept is good.
Now the story. I can say that in the beginning with the games and just the environment of the protagonist is solid. The story isn’t hard to follow and there are a lot of characters with distinct personalities. BUT, the story itself is kind of shitty. I really feel that I could say hundreds of sarcastic and cynical remarks to the drama or just the story itself. Although there aren’t that many incorrect things, it is just a bit weird how the flow went. It felt like they copy-pasted it from different events and just putting them together (what happens in most otome game anime adaptions, but not stuffy like this). I didn’t like the story at all. I thought it was interesting the first episode where everything got introduced, but afterwards it went so much downwards for me. It was really bad for me and I couldn’t even enjoy the story. It’s I said to be from a BL Visual Novel, but couldn’t find traces of it actually. I watched it and thought it was from a mobile game or something, but no, it’s from a fricking BL Otome game.
The plot wasn’t bad. I thought it was very surprising at some points. Yes, I know there is a story and plot part. If I think about the story itself, I didn’t like it. But some elements, so the general plot was surprising, which I liked. That’s literally the only thing I could like about it and was my biggest motivation for continuing this anime.
About the characters. There were VERY obvious character developments, which felt kind of stupid and you were barely thinking and you would know what kind of development. It’s nice to have it so obvious, but this was something I could roll my eyes for. Though I liked Clear a lot (I have him as my chrome theme set haha). This was basically going to the last boss and all the time and defeating the terrible tyrannical leader while finding out the quite surprising person’s past.
I’m giving it a 5/10. It’s really not something for me. I do like BL indeed, but this was no BL, stiff story flow and I didn’t really like the characters besides Clear. It wasn’t THAT bad, but it was definitely not good. So yeah, that’s it I guess.
Nothing really to say about anything else so this is it for this week.
Goodnight (for me it’s now Tuesday 22:13 when I finish this lol (I procrastinate too much)).
